IDC Asia Official Launch

Event Date: 1 November 2007

Purpose of visit:

Temasek Polytechnic, EON Reality Inc. and IM Innovations Pte Ltd today announced the launch of Asia’s First Interactive Digital Centre (IDC), which has been set up in Temasek Polytechnic’s (TP) Engineering School. The new centre houses state-of-the-art 3D innovative technologies and laboratories for industry project development, training and research.

IDC Asia was launched this morning by Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief Executive Officer, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).

IDC Asia’s unique differentiation is in developing commercial 3D applications for revolutionizing major product launches, developing innovative sales toolkit to effectively demonstrate competitive advantages of products and with building powerful visual product configurations to support and improve the business and training programmes of companies in industries relating to medical, education, transportation, aerospace, architecture, construction and engineering. For example, a company can reuse their existing 3D and 2D digital assets to create “smart” digital replicas – virtual products with functionalities of their product for product demonstration, sales & marketing applications, training and support applications.  This re-use of such digital assets has led to Global 1000 companies maintaining an edge over their competitors.

Schools and educational institutions can also look forward to using these 3D interactive applications to teach and illustrate complex concepts, replacing a hundred words, literally, with one touch of the screen!

Commenting on the launch of the Centre at the polytechnic, Mr Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic said, “IDC ASIA has created a unique platform, using innovative IDM solutions, to help businesses in various key sectors which are of strategic interest to Singapore, enhance their sales, marketing, education, training and support operations. The increasing use of IDM will also open new doors that will enable us to rethink how  familiar products and services can be better presented or conveyed, how designs can be conceptualised to bring about further improvement and how digital assets can be reused in different ways”.

Affirming their unstinting support towards IDM-related initiatives, Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief Executive Officer of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore said, “With a robust infrastructure, high-speed connectivity and its strategic geographic location, Singapore is well-positioned to be a global digital media and entertainment (DME) capital by 2015. The establishment of IDC Asia will spur the growth of DME businesses as Singapore strengthens itself as a DME capital offering innovative content, services and technologies to the world."

Under IDA’s ten-year masterplan, iN2015, one key thrust under the digital media initiative is to use infocomm as an enabler to serve as a catalyst for the creation and commercialisation of DME technologies. IDA’s support will help TP to accelerate the training of local infocomm manpower in using emerging digital media technologies, such as 3D visualisation.
